i'm sorry. i really need to put Dan Temmesfeld on the A-list, maybe
currently at the very top of the list. It was so obvious that i
overlooked that. apologies if you felt neglected, Dan.

anyway, you were on it, at least in my book. geographic proximity matters
little here---you post and nomatter where you are, boom! we all get it at
about the same time (digest subscribers not included). In terms of geo
proxy, one-time A-lister Jeff Klaum lives just around the corner from me,
and he's a great guy and all, but we don't see each other very often. geo
proxy means nothing.

i'm running out of time, kinda like R E M here, but yeah, this is true,
and i've been "off" for months now. Lurking. A couple months ago we
had a mini-gathering at Brady's and Jay Harnish was there, and he was
asking me a very similar question, like "why are you so quiet lately."
I felt bad coming up with an answer, so i waited for him to suggest one,
and agreed with the best of his suggestions which was, i think, "it's just
not as interesting anymore?"

and i think (for me, IMO, whatever disclaimer you'd like me to tag on
this here) that it became less interesting and i'm still trying to figure
out the why's and how's of that shift. this happened before the mass
exodus to lurkyville of the main posters to the board (the old A-list),
so that wasn't it. OtR was in a period of not much activity, but that
shouldn't matter because when do we ever discuss OtR here anyway :-)?
I remember seeing so many misdirected "take me off this list" requests
that at first i couldn't understand. why on earth would you want to leave
here? this is the best place in all of webdom, i thought. more often
than not, this place even beat the places with the naked-chicks-having-sex
sites. then slowly i started thinking you know, maybe i can see why
they'd wanna leave. there isn't a whole lot of OtR here, the reason
they came, and there ~was~ for a time a whole lot of disrespect, and i
think there was a cliquishness amongst the A-list that set people off. I
mean, it's all well and good if you're ~in~ the clique, but to be outside
it (and haven't we all been outside them?) engenders feelings of disdain
and hostility.
having analyzed that, (again, strongly IMO, this may not be ~your~ idea
at all) i decided to enter lurkyville, drop away for a bit. but it's
still too good a place to leave entirely so i never said, adios, list,
unsub me!
what's the point in that if you're just gonna come back on anyway?
(bruce?)

i felt that if i wasn't part of the solution then i must be part of the
problem. lurkyville was my answer.
