RE: Five O'Clock People ??

5oclock are an interesting group from here in Portland that blend the usual
accoustic guitar-band stuff with some slide guitar, violin, harmonica, and
the occasional accordian even. one of the things i dig most about them is
their bassist; she plays an upright bass. there's just something about a
female upright bass player, i don't know, you gotta love it. maybe it's
just girls in bands period... they also have really good lyrics, very
human-condition related, and real. if there's one thing i can't stand it's
christian artists with cheesy lyrics.

i've kept up with them since their self-titled indie debut and have enjoyed
seeing them grow musically. they perform around here a lot, and seem to
have a pretty good grassroots following. i most recently saw them here in
Portland opening for VOL; and in their recent national release, 'the nothing
venture,' they thank both VOL and OtR. their latest album is good but if
you can get your hands on any of their previous recordings, especially their
debut or 'fall,' do it.

sorry this isn't much of a musical review, but i would definately recommend
this band!
