Re: Within Without + more

First of all, props to Jess for kicking ass singing (definitely the only
time I've heard multiple people go out of their way to compliment a
karaoke singer, after her Alanis "Ininvited" and our "Summer Nights")
and bearing with some of my Cinti pals (not too tough of a task, I'm
sure).

Sha, thanks for taking the people off the list for us. Ya don't get to
see the word "triplicate" enough, IMO!

Topic at hand: Within Without live + others that kicked arse:

I remember seeing Win/wout at Sudsy's in '92 and quite enjoying it.
When asked later, Linford says they were different lyrics... Not seen
it done live sung by Karin since Emery 96 though. I genuinely believe
the rough mix is a big cop-out, since it's the exact same mix with Ric's
rough-bassline-played-on-a-guitar is in the mix. How many rough mixes
out there have backing vocals that are exactly the same as the album
mix?! (oh's in bridge). Other stuff I always liked live:

* Iron Curtain - wowee. When she wailed, this song ROCKED. Funny
  but it's one of the few songs I have little use for on the CD.
* Happy to Be So - Terri and Karin Emery 96.
* Sea & Sky - big fun.
* Seahorse - with Ric.
* Thank You My Angel.
* June in almost any configuration.
* Bothered, in all four versions I've seen it (with Linford mimicking
  Chris' bass pre-Eve, piano and Karin, whole band ethereal, whole
  band uptempo)
* Birds, at Tiffin show, when Linford added a Strawberry-Fields-esque
  keyboard riff to the verses. Awesome.
* I seem to recall a song called "If I'm Drowning"...  :)
* various unreleased stuff (Jig Newton, Goodbye, Moth, Whatever U Say)

Bruce's Tangential Rant: Songs I like better on disc than live:

* Like a Radio. Ric played it brilliantly each time, but after seeing
  it A LOT, the 8 or so minutes seemed like a hellishly long ordeal
  to sit through. We used to eagerly await that little riff he did
  to signal the rest of the band that he was done soloing (as can be
  heard on IRS's "Faces") Not to stop hearing him, just we wanted
  something above 60bpm...  :)
* Circle of Quiet. (Ducking here). I like the CD production.
* Falling/Etc. Whatever/Poughkeepsie. Moving the first time or two
  live, but after that they fell into the boring category for me.

Hmm. My final 2 cents is that I've shifted opinion on the whole
off-topic thing. I used to be very against it, but I dunno. I think
it's tough to post a lot about a band that isn't really doing much now
to talk about that hasn't been covered... And we're all getting
pal-like, so that helps.
