DC concert
Hello all. I jut joined this list recently and it's been great to
hear all of the randon conversataions etc, especially the ones today
about GDBD and Eve. I attended the concert in D.C. at the 9:30 club
on Friday night and thouroughly enjoyed myself! I drove up with two
of my cousins and a friend from Virginia. We had the luck of being
up by the stage, in the front. The concert was sold out and the club
was absolutely packed. It was great to see the interaction of the
performers and Karin's face as she sang. It was basically the same
repitoire as NYC, minus Poughkeepsie. :( I loved every second they
were on stage, and the crowd was generally appreciative. I heard
murmers of approval around me after their songs. Karin was beautiful
on stage. I loved watching Linford play.
Linford is actually my uncle's brother. My uncle by marriage. At
any rate, OtR has been to my grandparent's house and they're really
great friends with my other (blood) uncles. My mother came from a
family of 10 kids-6 guys, 4 girls- so I have two 20something uncles
that know Linford well. At one concert they were able to go
backstage and hang out before the concert and got a tour of the
CJunkie tour bus. When my aunt married Linford's bother about 10
years ago, I was a flower girl and Linford played the music at the
wedding. We have it on home video. This thanksgiving I went over to
my aunt's house and saw a family picture on the wall with Linford and
Karin in it. I was first really introduced to the band when I
recieved the CD for Christmas a couple of years ago that my uncles
and cousins were raving about(GDBD). I loved it. For about a year
and a half I didn't know anybody besides family members who knew of
OtR, now all of a sudden I'm meeting tons of people. When I was
asked what concert I was going to this past weekend, I didnt expect
others to know who I was talking about. However, lots were like "No
way! I love their stuff, but I don't know how to get it..." Its
always such a big deal to me to find other people who appreciate
their music, because for the longest time I only knew of them through
my family connections. That's why I love to hear what you guys have
to say about them. You have a more objective view than I. My cousin
and I have introduced many people to the the joy of OtR at the
University we attend in VA. One thing this whole OtR experience has
made me realize is that all musicians are humans with families and
lives beyond their art. Linford came from a Mennonite family and
community and visits his brother and five nieces and nephews(my first
cousins!) on the farm. It enhances the music for me when I listen
and see him play because I know his heritage. Unfortunatly, my
cousins and I were not able to talk to him much after the show...
only very briefly. The tour bus was leaving for the hotel so he
didnt really have time to chat. That's ok, it was good enough to
watch him on stage.
Have a great night everybody...it's time for me to hit the books.
