Re: Re evolution stuff
I'm not trying to get in the last word or anything, but was rather wondering
if any of you felt that much of this debate results from the debate of "old"
earth verses "young" earth. Biblical literalists, of course, would have to
come down on the side of a "young" earth because of the six day creation
account in Genesis, which renders the evolutionary model you've been
referring to an impossibility. With that in mind, has anyone ever heard of
the "gap" theory- that is, the theory that the account in Genesis 1:1 was
the original creation by whatever means God chose while Genesis 1:2 is
actually the beginning of the account of God's re-creaction of earth after
it been laid waste for some unrevealed reason. I personally am quite
fascinated by this theory as not only does it help reconcile many of the
fundamental anymosities that science and religion squabble over, but also
opens the door of imagination to a whole other world of pre-"human" history
on planet earth (not that we would want to open them theological worms- or
would we?)
