just to throw out some music therapy examples...

when i was working at gateway rehab clinic, the therapist used 2pac's song
*mother* in one of the sessions, and we worked through feelings of anger and
what the triggers were that caused anger...something incredibly important for
those who are trying to live with their addictions.

and then, when i was working at western psych, i was talking to the
therapist, nancy, who told me a story about when she first started. she had
decided to do a relaxation group, and thought of using enya, since enya is
pretty user friendly, right? well, there was a man in the group who was a
patient due to his depression after his wife died. what was his wife's
favourite music? you got it...enya.

so, sometimes what is *bad* for some people is *good* for someone else, and
vice versa. that's a more clinical application, but i think it illustrates
the point that all music can be used for good...there are plenty of articles
about the positive effect of using some rap music when working with
teen-agers.

also, dan, i agree with you regarding the whole eminem thing. just because i
might listen to someone who uses deragatory terms doesn't mean that i will
use them. and in the same vein, just because i listen to crystal lewis and
love the song, "people get ready, jesus is coming" doesn't mean i'm
christian, either.

just my two cents. :)

*hugz and kisses*
