this inflames me... (no OtR)
i'm not a political person. i haven't voted since
1994. it's not my thing. partly because i am just
fairly apathetic about most individuals that try to
govern a population of any size (whether it be in
politics, religion, corporate culture). perhaps it's
my insubordinate nature, whatever. or perhaps it's
due to being a 3rd grader and learning that i could
never be President of the United States due to where
i was born. that a stunningly sad thing to learn at
that age. not like i'd ever be President (i'm far
too shy), but the *FACT* that i could never be
President due to being born in Nigeria was a harsh
reality at 3rd grade. anyway... i digress...
that being said, i was talking with my fiancee last
night, and she was disturbed about something put
into law last fall called the USA PATRIOT Act.
i didn't think that it could be nearly as bad as she
was making it out to be. wrong. it is.

basically, the majority of it tramples many of our
rights established in the bill of rights.
i can say that i'm fortunate, lucky, providentially
happy that i have been raised in a country that i
have many freedoms that many in other countries do
not have.
this new USA PATRIOT Act, which i gather is in effect
NOW, makes it lawful for the government to detain
immigrants for no real substantial reason, for no
real substantial amount of time. they can hold some
one for how ever long they want, without charging
them with any crime.
this part is ridiculous, and it's racist and pre-
judiced in nature. sure, what happened on 9/11/01
was a sever tragedy. but that shouldn't give us the
right to lock someone up just because they are of
a certain race/religion. we stole this land in the
first place... we should at least make it so it is a
free land for anyone to live in.
the part about the new USA PATRIOT Act that inflames
me is the part about warrantless search. basically
someone in the government could come in a search my
house, with no warrant. *and* they don't even have
to tell me that they searched.
it's true. the Act states those powers. read it
yourself:

it's bullshit. Orwell warned about this crap. it's
blatantly NOT RIGHT. it's a step in the absolute
wrong direction for a democratic republic. i guess
we can thank King George.
other than gas prices being outrageous, maybe Canada
is not such a bad place to raise a family.
weighing options,
Dan
