Just got Patience in the mail

I just got Patience yesterday from half.com (I ordered a new,
still-sealed one there because I wanted to see Rockwell Kent's stuff
that Linford is so fond of in the insert). This is a great CD, I can't
believe it's from 1991. I mean, it does have some early '90s sounds to
it, but that's not a bad thing, nor is it unexpected. But wow, I'm
listening to track 1 (Jacksie) right now, and it's almost scary! It
reminds me of the movie Labyrinth, it kind of has that "beautifully
frightening" thing going for it. Karin's singing is very beautiful (as
always), but in a haunting sort of way. And the middle eastern flair to
the music (on this and on at least one other track) adds a very
mysterious air to the music. Now I'm on track 2 (I've Been Slipping). I
really love the light airy motif this album seems to have. Karin's voice
just flutters through the octaves in a very delicate way that is so
great. Oh boy, now we're on track 3 (Circle of Quiet). This one seems to
be the most like modern-day OtR, and it's really good. It reminds of
something, but I can't yet put it into words... I *love* the "There is
no shadow of turning with thee" line. Such a great hymn, and so
perfectly adapted. Good work, Linford and Ric! Now we're on track 4 (How
Does it Feel). I love the beat of this song. Karin sings the verses like
an Irish pub jig (is that a borrowed melody, I can't place but it's
incredibly familiar). The guitar work on this song is so cool, it's just
foot-tappin' good, folks! :) We're getting close to track 5 (HDIF
Reprise) now. I'm going to be hard-pressed to avoid the temptation to
shout this one out as a request at the next OtR show I attend. I'm gonna
say, "I wanna hear Karin rap!" So, Karin, if you hear someone say that,
it's probably me. Ah, yes, it has started now. This is the other track
with the middle-eastern flair. Go Karin! Drop dem mad lyrics! Man I love
Ric's guitar licks on this song! Alright, now we're on track 6 (Sister).
I'll stop here, or I'll go through the whole album like this. Anyway,
just thought I'd share a piece of my discovering some vintage Over the
Rhine. Have a great day all!
