i had to research the identity theft thing for a piece
i wrote for work a few months ago. i don't know if
this info is useless to a non-amerikoner, but it can't
hurt.
it is suggested that stolen c cards be reported to the
3 major credit bureaus:
equifax: 800-525-6285 www.equifax.com
experian: 800-301-7195 www.experian.com
trans union: 800-60-7289 www.transunion.com
also, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission now has a
7-page form that is an identity theft affidavit. it's
at www.consumer.gov/idtheft/affadavit.htm.
