Yep, Ponce de Leon is pronounced that way here in Atlanta.  Unless you
abbreviate it as "Ponce," which is what many people do around here.

Which reminds me of another "funny name" story: there's a street in San
Antonio named after a Spanish patronym -- "De Zavala" -- for years my
grandmother thought it was spelled "Days of Allah".

Colorado still claims Del Norte and Buena Vista which they pronounce
incorrectly [dell-NORT] and [byoon-uh-VEES-tuh], and Atlanta (if i'm
remembering correctly) has Ponce de Leon street, which they pronounce as
[pohnss-day-LEE-ohn]. Eeek.

As opposed to King of Ultramarine? uh, nevermind. it's late.
