I can't say that I disagree with you in general.  I'm not a big Pitt fan
either.  I thought his "performance" in 12 Monkeys was pure technique,
not really acting.  It blows me away how performances such as that one or
Hoffman's "Rain Man" dealy are lauded as brilliant when, in reality, they
are one-note physical performances that can be pulled off by any
half-butt actor with the good fortune or the right agent to land him the
role.  It's the subtle, everyman performances by guys like Kevin Spacey,
Robert Duvall and Gene Hackman that deserve to be called acting.  Those
guys know how to disappear into a role and make it ring true.
