Have I got a "Tribute" secret for you...

I just sent something similar to Jen (Cochran), so I'll send it to the list
as well to avoid confusion.

I fully intend to get the band's approval to do this. This is no covert
operation. We're not turning our mothers into milkshakes. (There's one for
you long-timers, though I don't know who originally wrote it).

What kind of band wouldn't be flattered by this attention? ZILLIONS of
active artists have tribute CDs to them by indie things like this currently.
With proceeds going to charity, they'd be all the more asinine not to
endorse it. (I think THAT'D be something, walk into a major label to
negotiate a contracts and say, "here, here's a well done indie tribute album
to us...")

I've now posted this 4 times on the list, I'll go for 5. Legally this is no
big deal. Artists know that when they sign up for ASCAP or BMI publishing
(or SESAC, for Monk). It's part of the deal. If they can't handle it,
don't release music. :)

I'm being an ass a bit there, but that said, I plan to ask them nicely if
they'll endorse it. Another grand reason to talk about it here is that this
is an Over the Rhine forum (though we sometimes forget that!!). Chances are
likely that a good number of sales will come from this list.

Bruce
