Actually, the label didn't fold so much as it's parent company, Polygram
International was acquired by Universal, and the label's assets and roster
were blended into the larger company. Many, many bands were let go. All
million sellers (Amy Grant, Sheryl Crow, etc.) and debut bands that have had
chart success (MxPx, Burlap to Cashmere, etc.) found their option transfered
to interscope records. Everyone else, (the Cardigans, Innocence Mission,
Sixteen Horsepower, etc. etc., etc.) got the ax. A bargain bonanza for indie
labels.
