LOL i am sure some of you old-school listees had to smile on this one and
expect this post. ope, it's no secret to anyone who's been here a while that
this is my favorite otr song. i will give you my interpretation, which,
according to karin, is pretty close.
("look inside for the elusive goldmine...")
there is this girl who is desperatley looking inside herself to find something
good.
("broken glass and a little cheap wine is all that [she] can find...")
but all she can see is the bad stuff inside herself. she can't find anything
good because she had been abused in one way or another (like it matters) by
her father. and she realizes that she is really fucked up, and that if she
doesn't receive healing from her relationship with her father that she will
let every man treat her the way her father did, thus becoming everyman's
daughter. that is the simple explanation. i could do a line by line
explanation if you want, but i will spare those who have heard my thoughts too
many times before!
make sense, ope?

It's always the same old question. Who am I and whose invention? This armour's
full of dust. There's so much of us in each other. If I hate you you're my
best reminder of all I wish I was. I hate you just because I'm everyman's
daughter.

Who do you think that I am? It don't matter long as we can understand. I am
hurting someone. I am hurting someone just like, just like you.

Insulting the wounds of others, my sisters, my brothers, my vision's way too
good. I carry the inward aching. Like you, I too am naked. I don't look that
good, but this is flesh and blood. I'm everyman's daughter.

Look at all the blood we've spilt. I can't deal with all this fundamental
guilt. I am hurting someone. I am hurting someone just like, just like you. I
am. I am. I am everyman's daughter. I am. I am. I am everyman's daughter.
