the horse's mouth

FYI, a reliable source told me that the reasoning behind the lack of
introduction is that most songs that you hear on the radio start out pretty
quickly with lyrics. things with long instrumental beginnings don't "hook"
the listener to something new. It would appear that they're trying to
position themselves better for mainstream airplay.

apparently, this came straight from the horse's mouth. is the horse wrong on
this one?

i think so--sort of. i think (at least with the radio music i listen to) that
songs with at least *some* introduction would be in the majority. how many
times do you hear the beginning music of some song playing while the ending
music of another song fades out ("every new beginning is some other
beginning's end..." LOL)? how many times do you hear the dj introducing the
song or screaming the station's call letters while a song is beginning? i
hear that kind of stuff all the time.
any thoughts?
