Re: musings... (schuba's review...)

greetings all,

Someone asked for a review / setlist from the Schuba's show, so i
thought i'd step up...
I can only speak of the first show (they played two...) since i had to
get back to indiana that night and regrettably had to leave...

Setlist:
1. Faithfully dangerous
2. tumbleweeds
3. the seahorse
4. all i need is everything
5. etcetera, whatever
6. everyman's daughter
7. i will remember
8. moth
9. whatever you say
10. anyway
11. poughkeepsie
12. goodbye
_________

encore:
13. jacks' valentine
14. latter days

notes - musings:

overall, a pretty standard OtR show, at least as of late. basically the
same setlist they've played for a year or so, but it was still very
enjoyable... especially the new songs (i'm with Jeff, "moth" is my
favorite). I didn't really notice Mike's absence until they got to "I
Will Remember." He just used to CRUSH that song! another dissapointment
on that song was that Jack didn't have his pedal steel... tho, there
probably wouldn't have been room for it on stage (schuba's is pretty
darn small...)

They also reworked "Poughkeepsie" from the last time i heard it live. it
was much more subtle this time (i think i complained about the drums
last time) and it fit quite a bit better with the feel of the song. Jack
did some cool volume knob stuff on this song, bringing the note in after
he had already played it... did a good job adding atmosphere to this
song.

Goodbye was nice... i was standing right behind the soundbooth and
wached the sound guy glance at merchandise todd and start laughing
because everyone started clapping and cheering during the pause at the
end of the song...

and in closing, while i can't say anything BAD about Wade, i can't
really give him two thumbs up either. i realize he's the newbie ( newby
? ) and he probably isn't going to stick around anyway, but there wasn't
any of the trademark Mike SOUL in his playing. don't get me wrong, his
playing was technically fine (didn't screw anything up...) but i
definately missed Mike's GROOVE (and gigantic smile...). Mike will
definately be missed.

good day all,
eric.
