Judging a book by its cover (was: Re: brown baggin' it)

So it was said, so it was written:

>Why don't you like Kerry?

He doesn't sit well with me... he sat down one time and stole my brown bagged lunch. I had no idea that a fruit roll-up, juice box, and a PB&J meant so much to him. In other words, I have no real evidence. I haven't made up my mind yet, but first impressions of him don't sit well. No other reason so far.

Kerry is not my first choice, either. And I owe it up to the smarminess factor, which is typically what kills NE candidates in the south, but seems to be taking a pass this election season. Kerry's hair and cheekbones and alleged use of Botox? have always said to me that he's more style than substance, but that's largely based on impressions. A co-worker was confusing him Senator Bob Kerrey of Phoenix Project war crimes fame. Fortunately, that's not the case.

Edwards seems like an even poorer choice. I look to him to be a very different candidate than he would be a president. Especially concerning civil rights. You can see him physically wince everytime the subject of racial or sexual equality is raised in debates. He just looks and sounds too much like a tv preacher for my tastes.

Clark I liked quite a lot because everytime he opened his mouth, usually even when he put his foot in it, he still said something I wanted to hear. Perhaps, that's just similar roots. Plus, having only registered as a Democrat last year, I felt he was less likely to be purely partisan as a leader. Of course, it's probably that lack of experience elected office, along with foot-in-mouth syndrome, that has sunk his campaign. But he LOOKED presidential to me.

Dean was my second favorite. Personally, I don't understand why the speech that sunk him Iowa had such a detrimental approach. It was a fairly typical "rally-the-troops" effort that anybody who's ever played football would think par for the course from the coach to the team going into the playoffs. His howl was awkward, perhaps, ill-advised, maybe, but hardly disqualifying.

Still, I wouldn't be upset at the possibility of a Kerry/Clark ticket in November.
