RE: Over-The-Rhine Digest V5 #433

No idea who you are, but I appreciate the "original" play on my name that
you choose to use as the title of your message. I assume this was somehow
supposed to disparage my point of view. Then again, maybe not.

In any case, I'm not about that, but I will reply to your comments:

>>>but never participate in community that evolves out of the list...

People who do this are called "lurkers"...they subscribe to the list because
they find something of value on it (things like concert reviews in my case).
This doesn't mean that they wish to wade through everything else though, or
establish lifelong friendships. Everyone is entitled to their own level of
participation.

>>>... except to say that the community should cease to exist?

Please refer to a quote where I said this community should cease to exist.
Transferring from one communication medium to another isn't "ceasing to
exist". Neither is using two types of communication at once. Get a grip.
;)

So, you are suggesting that everyone who is lurking on this list, or
further, may disagree with your point of view simply unsubscribe and "leave
well enough alone"?

Nice.

Just out of curiousity...

Why, exactly, would someone join an email list,
remain on that list for years,
but never participate in community that evolves out of the list...

There's this nifty thing called 'unsubscribing' that will effectively
simulate the same result, eliminating the list from one's email world.
Why not just do that and leave well enough alone?

Orchards don't grow on the bottom of the sea, to the best of my memory...
