    Etymotics ER-6 earphones are like earplugs and earphones at the same 
time.  They will stay in
your ear better than regular earphones.  You do not need to have the music 
as loud because it
blocks part of the ambient sound.  I like them on commercial air travel with 
the airline adapter.
(The adapter does not make a good connection on some older planes because 
the socket on
some of the seats seems to get loose from years of abuse.)
