Hi Everybody!
Well, I've delurked from the digest version and am now coming to you live
(well, sorta) from msn.com!!
There has been so much that I've wanted to respond to. Here are a few
(briefly, I hope!).
First- and foremost, It was EXCELLENT! to meet many of you (you've been
listed numerous times so I won't repeat the list) Friday at the Rock Bottom.
I look forward to more encounters in the future!
Second-THis is an old one-Christmas music-and these are ones that I don't
think I saw mentioned or, if they were I missed or forgot: Nonetheless
The Squirrel Nut Zippers-Christmas Caravan (truly unique)
Harry Connick- When My Heart Find Christmas (It Must Have Been Ol' Santa
Claus-is great!)
Charlie Brown Christmas-Vince Guaraldi Trio (I do think this was mentioned,
but I'll repeat anyway)
Kenny G- My wifes, but I still enjoy it.
Third-Paul Moak was fabulous (Coney). I can't really compare him to Ric
since I've only seen Moak once. (BTW-did anyone else notice that Moak was in
the Studio for World Cafe'?- Made me think he might have been at Taft even
though they'd previously announced Slocum. Aside: I can't vote further
either on best guitarist since I never saw Jack or others. Ric was truely
exceptional, though, it's clear from interviews that he and L didn't see
eye-to-eye. It happens. I hope Moak does return for the European tour,
though.
Fourth-I'm keeping my fingers crossed here. But out here in Fairfield, OH we
have a summer concert series (a great outdoor amphitheatre) with very good
musicians (like Robin Lacey and DeZydeco-played at Tallstacks, too). I
called the coordinator and requested OTR. My math told me that they got ca.
$2400 (200 X $12) from Canal Street. The Fairfield concert coordinator said
that was at the high end. Nonetheless, I guess it's possible. I'll probably
call back after the first of the year to see what came of the 'discussions'.
Fifth-I may (dragging and screaming) be interested in this writing thing.
I've done it before but, It's sooooo much work.
Sixth-Just remembered this one! What's this 'new' Rock Persona thing Larry
Nagler was talking about in the Enquirer review (thanks for the link Dave)?
If I remember correctly Nagler said Moak reminded them how to rock at Coney.
Either way, Coney, CST, or Taft, I didn't see much of a difference...Seems
Nagler's trying to spin them the way he wants. I might not disagree with
that spin, nonetheless. :)
Thanks,
Garry
