RE: christmas music
are there comparisons? artists to consider? i like appalachian christmas
music too (think Pat a Pan, and rise up shepherd)
Actually Rhys, there are more including this brand new gem from Jane SIberry
available form her web site:
Shushan the Palace (Hymns of Earth)
Centuries-old Hymns by Handel, Bach,
Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Rossetti, Holst, et al.
Loreena McKennitt's To Drive the Cold Winter Away
COunt Your Blessings:
A Live Recording of Seasonal Music by Holly Cole, Rebecca Jenkins, Mary
Margaret O'Hara, Jane Siberry, (and) Victoria Williams." Originally a
CBC/NPR radio broadcast from Christmas '93, this summit session featuring
some of the most unique female performers and voices in the world
(accompanied by Lyle Lovett pianist Tim Ray) is an atmospheric treasure.
While individual performances shine, the ensemble work is particularly
stellar. The repertoire blends standards and more obscure traditional fare
selected by the participants with three originals: O'Hara's "Never No,"
Siberry's "Are You Burning Little Candle," and Williams' "A Holy Thing"
(written mere hours before the taping).
VARIOUS: Winter, Fire & SNow
A global lineup contributes an atmospheric worldbeat vibe to Winter, Fire &
Snow, including highlights from Jane Siberry ("Are You Burning, Little
Candle?") Clannad ("Dealramh Go Deo") and b-tribe ("Peace on Earth"). Also
onboard: Andreas Vollenweider, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Tuck & Patti, Manu
Dibango, Gipsy Kings, Robbie Robertson, Ottmar Liebert and more. ? Roch

ANd the classic Watersons album, Frost and Fire, which are seasonal songs
Ok, enough from me.
