Subject: punch-drunk love

Upon the release of the DVD (a few weeks ago), I was wondering
what are
other people's impressions of PT Anderson's Punch-Drunk Love?

I thought of it as a 'disturbingly told romance of eccentrically
precious individuals.' Obviously Adam Sandler's best dramatic
work
(Happy Gilmore or The Wedding Singer as his best comedic work).
Also,
it was nice to see PTA sticking to a short film run-time.

Any other thoughts... I wanna watch it again...

I'm really behind in reading digests, so I'm post C-Stone on this post, but
I just saw Punch Drunk Love the other day. It's been 5 years since I've seen
Boogie Nights, so there are many details I don't remember. But I do know
that the pacing and score of much of Magnolia and Punch Drunk Love make me
edgy. It's too manic, and it makes me tense. Maybe that's the desired
effect, but it's a visceral response to the movie that I'm not comfortable
with. My wife actualyy can't watch it. She has to leave.
That said, though, PDL's shorter time made it harder for me to accept some
of the character developments. The scene where Barry finally stands up to
his sister on the phone is a great turning point for him, but it almost
seems too sudden for me. There are other examples, but I'll keep my post
short (its already off topic...) Call me crazy, but I like long movies. I
like character exposition.
