the swearing thing

My opinion of this whole thing differs from most folks
who have replied in regards to this subject. Although
I may disagree, I realize everyone is entitled to
their own opinion. I'm not very good at proper
writing, so I apologize if I happen to skip around in
this email.

Words are not just words. God doesn't think words are
just words. There are many examples in the Bible
(which I am not going to quote but many of you know
which they are.) My husband pointed out an
interesting example. If God thought that words were
just words then why did God not allow the Jews to
speak His name, Yahweh.

It sounds like this band is still trying to figure out
what they do believe in some matters. There is
nothing wrong with that, however, they need to
recognize that a responsibility comes with being in
the public eye, especially if they profess to be
"believers", which seemed to be confirmed in that
article. The reason that they should have been more
careful was not because they should have been more
"politically correct". They should have been careful
because, regardless of what "kind" of band they are
labeled as, they say they are Christians and
everything that they say is going to be evaluated by
people who are not Christians. And what kind of
message are they sending to those people. I realize
that there are non-Christians on this list reading
this email. I don't blame non-C's for being skeptical
of Christianity. Look at the things we as Christians
do and say in or everyday life.
We sin. The band members sin. It happens. It is
what you do afterwards that really counts. They need
to re-evaluate what they say and do. Will they be
renewed in the mind or will they continue to use the
Lord's name in vain and chalk it up to "being
sinners". (Not to say that they said this the first
time, but that's what many Christians do who want to
make excuses for doing the same wrong things over and
over.)
OtR and Bill Mallonee are my two fave artists. I have
heard both swear and I disagree with it for the same
reasons that I wrote previously. We don't have to use
swear words (regarding other characters or strong
emotions or any other example) to get a point across.
People think that swear words are needed for the
strongest points because we have grown up in a world
where expanded vocabularies are diminishing. Others
just want an excuse to be able to continue to do
something that many view as wrong. (I am not speaking
of anyone/artists specifically, goodness knows I often
need to take my own advice. I am referring to people
in a general sense.) Many people are also just
interested in making a statement. But shouldn't we
let the statement be made by how we live our lives?
(Christians especially)

I do think if you really need to quote a non-Christian
character in some kind of work it is ok to imply what
they said by maybe writing the first letter and some
symbols to follow it.

I can't think of any more to say right now.

Back to lurking when this thread is diminished,
K
