nashville review

hey, y'all. quick note re: the show otr played in nashville this afternoon.
very packed for a show with as much notice as there seemed to be. it was
held at the downtown presbyterian church which was built around 1850 in an
egyptian-revival style. yep, you read that right. egyptian. after the
show we wandered around the sanctuary and it's bizarre. all the stained
glass, detail, even the winged sun disk and egyptian columns at the entrance
- crazy. very rare for the US, and it's on the nat'l register of historic
places.

will sayles, the percussionist from the christmas 2002 shows, played with
them - he's a nashville local. his kit was really interesting, a huge
handmade native bass and "snare" and a strange tom, with a paiste ride and a
small hi hat with another percussion box he used once.

nearest i remember, it was:

new song - (jesus and mary) pretty good stuff.. (linford on grand piano,
karin singing only)
bothered (same, but with will on percussion)
seahorse (k+l on acoustic guitar)
jesus is new orleans
faithfully dangerous
fever
my love is a fever (different again, it's like they spin a wheel for musical
styles for this song. i hope i haven't missed the foxtrot or rhumba
stylings of this one)
remind us (karin solo on piano and vocals)
all i need is everything (k+l on acoustic guitar)
when i go (linford on piano)

not surprising, karin was in fine voice, and the boys played great. it was
so quiet you could hear a bible page turn in the chapel during the
performance, and everyone was very receptive to the show. remind us was
very moving live - i'd seen this a few months before but as that k-razy war
seems closer it holds more impact i guess.

they played maybe an hour and tons of the folks there for the show and
exhibit stayed and mingled afterwards in the very laid back atmosphere.
fitting for such a fine city.

mark, dan and i met zayne and her friend after the show. always great to
meet fellow listees! nashville is really close to cincinnati - easy for a
weekend road trip. especially when someone else is driving.

all i need is a good's night's sleep,
inside, outside, but preferably inside,
B
