Bruce is a big fat unfounded rumor spreader

Since the compilation with the new OtR cover of "Fever" comes out Tuesday,
there's a local show to promote and release it... A few of the bands that
are on the CD will play live... Since they're local, and I didn't bother to
check their schedule to see if they're in town, I'm making the wild
semilogical leap to say that they may be performing at this on Tuesday...

King Treasures
BY MIKE BREEN

On Tuesday, there will be a CD release show for the new Hidden Treasures
compilation at the Madison Theater in Covington. The disc pays tribute to
Cincinnati's rich musical history by featuring local music luminaries
covering the hits of Cincy-based King Records, which sparked the careers of
legends like James Brown, Hank Ballard and Wynonie Harris, among numerous
others. Playing on King's eclectic signing policy (the label brought
together Blues, Bluegrass, Country, and R&B musicians in the race-sensitive
times of the '40s and '50s), the disc also serves as a benefit for the
Inclusion Network (inclusion.org), a non-profit organization that works with
volunteers, families, social agencies and businesses to bring all sides of
the community together.

The Hidden Treasures disc is one of most creative, diverse and well-produced
"various artists" CD to ever come out of Cincinnati. Besides doing a good
job of representing a cross section of the local music scene, the producers
of the disc also present some interesting teamings on several tracks. On the
Freddie King song, "Hide Away," for example, Cincy transplant Peter Frampton
gets paired with drummer Phillip Paul, the legendary session drummer who
provided the backbeat for over 350 King songs. Elsewhere, Blues diva Sweet
Alice Hoskins joins Outlaw Country bad boy Dallas Moore on "Good Rockin'
Tonight" and, on one of the album's more ingenious tracks, Funk legend
Bootsy Collins teams up with Blues/Rock guitarist Sonny Moorman for a more
edgy, experimental take on "Hide Away." Other highlights on the disc include
a haunted version of "Fever" by Over the Rhine, a soulful take on "Tomorrow
Night" by Blessid Union of Souls, and a crafty yet no less funky swipe at
James Brown's "Cold Sweat" by singer Bill Wood and the PyschoAcoustic
Orchestra.

Tuesday's release party will feature many of the artists featured on the CD.
Showtime is 6 p.m. and tickets are a mere $5.
