i take that back.  upon reading the lyrics to 
"Imagine," he is saying that.

i still think it's a valid song.  awfully idealistic,
butd i think the intent of it was not one of "believe
what i believe," but rather *what if what each of our
individual religions didn't matter?*  what if we
could all get together and set those things aside?

race, sex, or creed should go by the wayside when
it comes to loving your fellow man.

i think that's more the core of "Imagine" than "get
rid of religion."
