As i understand it Karin is a Scandinavian version — I met a francophone Scandinavian missionary who ran a youth hostel in europe
named Karin (pronounced [CAR-in] not [CARE-in]) who said it was an old family name.

Every Karen I've encountered has been spelled with an "e."  For some reason, I've met lots of them.  The first time I read OTR's liner notes a while back was when I first encountered the "i."  Maybe it's a regional thing, who knows.  I feel sort of lame now for starting this thread.
