English, eh, Kelvo?

On the Road notes:

1) On the Road . . . Over the Rhine . . . Jack . . . Jack . . .

2) On the Road should be a read at a good fast clip. It's got a
banterbanterbanter to it, like a hyperactive guy narrating your bus trip,
even though you're trying to read. When the character Dean Moriarty
(real life Neil Cassady) speaks, the banterbanter peaks.

3) Moriarty = Neil Cassady, most famous driver of the counter culutre,
also featured in Tom Wolfe _Electric Kool Aid Acid Test_; Old Bull Lee =
William S. Burroughs; Sal Paradise = Jack; Carlo Marx = Allen Ginsberg.
There are others, but then we're getting into obscurities. Herbert
Huncke's in there, if you're familiar. (Ginsberg got kicked out of
college and spent several months in an asylum as a more or less direct
result of Huncke's running a crime ring out of Ginsberg's apartment. At
the asylum, he met Carl Solomon, who was for him a little like what
Moriarty/Cassady was for Jack. "Howl" is dedicated to Solomon.)

4) That is all.

Fred
