what weere you using? a lot of them, including norton and macafee have a
free version.

i recommend either:

a. paying for a full version (although it has been known to slow and
sometimes corrupt the machine you own)

b. running a closed system. not entirely practical.

c. using an email system that does NOT in any way allow acces, files to
run or script to install themselves. ie - a non-html enabled, pretty mail
system. not feasilbe for most people.

d. not accepting anything from anyone that you don't know. and checking
your mail message bfore downloading or saving any files sent. if the file
has a wierd name, is included in a large forward, or look slik eyou were
mass mailed. delete it. if you must download, do it from trusted sites.

e. run *nux. (:

honestly, it is possible to run without virus software, and use
outlook/exchange and not receive viruses, although lately i don't
recommedn risking it. you can secure your box with other measures as well,
but i don't know how well that might work. when i get a computer at home,
i'm having my own firewall - and of course it will be linux. which is also
vulnerable, no matter what anyone might say (:
