section 107 - the fair use stuff

"Notwithstanding the provisions of sections 106 and 106A, the fair use of
a copyrighted work, including such use by reproduction in copies or
phonorecords or by any other means specified by that section, for purposes

copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research, is not an

then there's a bunch of 'how to tell' stuff. near as i can tell - not
being a law student - copying things is ok as long as you're not doing it
for profit and not exploiting it. there was an intersting clause about
'not being able to find a reasonalbe priced copy of it.

there's also some stuff about allowing it to be lent or copied, but not
sold. the original can be sold. etc etc.

personally - me?

i'm in a mixed boat. i like open-source, but i don't like stealing or
looking like i'm stealing. that said, i have copies of things i used to
have. mostly cos i loaned the original and it never came home. so someone
made me a copy of theirs. i like mp3s, but being a programmer i have to be
super careful what kind of mp3s i have at work, legal or no. i tend to rip
what i own, or a friend owns. and then someday i go buy it.

as for U2 - saw their rattle and hum video for the first time. wow. i like
the lighting and colours.
