RE: VoL short review...
excellent. i'm glad you enjoyed him. we grow 'em strong here in the
Northwest. :-) he has a few other great lead tracks on Five o'Clock People's
"The Nothing Venture", if none of you guys have that one, i highly recommend
picking it up. Also, they played and recorded a show with a string section
for thier latest album "In the Bleak Midwinter". The version of "Sorry" on
there is *amazing*. if you can't tell i'm a huge FOCP fan. :-) i also have
probably the best bootleg copy of thier song "waltz" avaliable from a show
that i recorded at Linfield College.
on a related note, it was FOCP that lead me to Over the Rhine. The first
song that i had heard FOCP do was this slow, drawn out version of "Latter
Days" with tremelo and slide guitar, and stand up bass. the really unique
thing about thier version is that Alex sings the main melody pretty soft and
melancholy, whilst Drew does this heart tearing harmony part over the top of
it. he sings "you dance without me, you dance so gracefully" with the
passion of a man who has lost his true love, and it absolutly makes you want
to break into tears.

No kidding. The man rocks the counter-tenor house. Geez, the guy has
more of a range than Derri and Bono combined. And he's _so_ good. We
scrounged up a recording of Lunar last night before we went to bed, as
we'd never heard the guy before.
It was pure VoL, but frankly, it would've kicked ass to see him bust out
one of his own songs.
