however,  i had always thought (other than in academic circles and the usage
above)  that fellow  meant a guy.

but you know,  silly me,  i always thought  guy meant guy,  and yet chicks
are always using it on themselves.    one chick asks a group of chicks,
"what are you guys doing tonight?"     (um....sex change operation in the
afternoon?).

waiting for the day when "gal"  refers to men as well,
