for those of you who care about these sorts of things, i just picked up The Strokes cd .  . . it's pretty good, in a pretty lo-fi sort of way.  whether they are the saviours of rock as some have dubbed them to be remains to be seen, but with two full listens under my belt, it is growing on me more and more.

Yeah, they seem very low-fi, but very hip. I haven't listened to them yet,
but I did see their video on MTV2. Very retro. If it wasn't for the
BUZZWORTHY tag emblazened in the corner of the screen I would have never
guessed it was a new video.

I saw an interview with them on MTV before their CD came out, and the VJ was asking them about their reaction to the terrorist attacks.  The guys in the band must have used the words "like" and "y'know" fifty times in the interview!  At the time there was such critical buzz already swarming about how great they were, but I just couldn't get over how inarticulate they seemed to be.  Since then, I haven't been able to get into them.  I don't know; I guess I expect my musicians (especially those with high critical acclaim) to at least appear intelligent in an interview.  (
Linford and Karin set a high standard; don't they?  :-) )  Plus I tend to be wary of acts that arrive on the scene with such universal critical swooning as The Strokes have.
