It depends on your company.  My company gave me time
off with pay (most companies do, I think.  At least if
you're full-time.)  Your employer is forbidden by law
to place your job in jeopardy because of jury duty.
In Kentucky you get paid $12.50 a day for jury duty. 
($5 plus 7.50 for expenses.)
I don't know if you can volunteer or not.  I would
think some attorneys might strike you if they saw you
as too eager.
