hiya paul... how goes it?

why would someone get scolded? is it because the
artist isn't getting the royalties? i remember when
"audible sigh" (when it wasn't known if it would
come out) went for OVER $1k on eBay- *that* deserved
MAJOR scolding- if not jail time.

i think of it this way... i give this CD sampler to
someone with **good descriptions** (i tend to write
far too much information about the bands that i like)
about what the band is, what albums these songs came
off of, and how to purchase these CDs
(http://www.overtherhine.com/)... i can almost
GUARANTEE that the beholder of this OtR mix CD will
become a fan.

if royalties was the issue, i could mail a check to
the band for $.84 (what's the going rate per song
nowadays... $.06?). heck, i could even use the OtR
deposit slip that bruce has... hahaha... :P

and with VoL, they've got, like, 14 albums now or
something like that... i see samplers as great/huge
benefits to bands in the semi-underground like OtR
and VoL are...

word of mouth is the best way for their growth.

i'm pro-artists' rights, but i'm also pro-sharing
of music. they coexist... much better when record
labels butt out. i tell ya, the future of music is
with artists selling their wares themselves. well,
the future for a smart/business-advised artist.

sell 100,000 copies on a major label for $16.98/ea,
get jack after you dig your way out of debt to them
for their "marketing" efforts and "freebies." sell
10,000 copies on the internet/mail order/word of mouth
for $10-$12/ea, and come out way ahead...

at least it makes more sense in my head.

craziness,
Dan
