God, i love this...
<de-lurk>
so i'm not a hardcore OtR fan. the only album i own is GDBD, which i
wouldn't have even thought to abbreviate if i hadn't begun reading this list
a couple weeks ago. i've never seen them live, although on my third time
through GDBD in the past three hours, i think i'd give my left leg to be
able to actually watch Karin's face as she sings these hauntingly beautiful
lyrics.
and i'm a Christian. a student at Cornerstone University no less, which is
just slightly less legalistic than Cedarville. (my apologies, Shelley...but
at least we don't go to Bob Jones!)
so, as a relatively new fan of OtR, i really haven't been able to classify
their 'status' as Christian or secular. but there's really no need to
pigeonhole. we all love their music for different reasons, and the reason
i've grown to love them doesn't even have anything to do with the fact that
they are Christians. i'm just a sucker for passionate, enigmatic,
illustrious poetry accompanied by the simplicity of an acoustic guitar or
piano. so they're Christians? that's wonderful. maybe my mansion will be
near enough to theirs in heaven that i can catch a front row seat or snag a
backstage pass, or maybe even a guitar lesson, if i don't get the chance
here on earth.
but i'm seriously loving reading these debates. keep it up, this is good
stuff to wrestle with.
