I really, really adored _The Last Samurai_, by Helen DeWitt.

It's fiction, about a boy genius, and based upon the story/feel/theme of 
the movie _The Seven Samurai_.

Really excellent. I highly recommend it. Some beautiful passages of text, 
stuff you'll wanna read aloud to someone else, and a really moving 
storyline, peopled with interesting, dimensional characters.

Please let me know if you get it and read it. I really was impressed with it.
