nebulous literary memories

I need some help from you literary types. Back in my
college days I read a short story or an excerpt from a
larger work that centered around a group of people who
lived in a mall/shopping center/department store. I
know that's not much to go on, but it's been a while.
For some reason I have operating on the assumption
that the title was "Evening Primrose" or something
like that. But a friend seems to remember a story
called something Primrose that's about an old spinster
lady who kills her lovers.

Any clue? I REALLY want to find the mall/dept. store
story. It was swee...as I recall.

Thanks,

Kelvin
