Naming bands after jazz artists

From an FAQ on the web.
-----
"Where did Pink Floyd get their name?"

It had often been said that it came to Syd in a vision. Before being called Pink
Floyd, they were known as "The Pink Floyd Sound," "The Meggadeaths," "The
Abdabs," "The Screaming Abdabs," "The Architectural Abdabs," "The T-Set," and
"Sigma 6." The name Pink Floyd came from albums by two Georgia blues artists,
Pink Anderson and Floyd Council, that were in Syd's collection.

About 1965, Floyd formed as Sigma 6. Then they changed to T-Set, then
Meggadeaths, Abdabs (with variations), and finally in late '65, became The Pink
Floyd, which was eventually shrunk to simply Pink Floyd after Syd left.

I'd also heard that Syd had named his cats Pink and Floyd after the two blues
artists mentioned above, and that it came by way of that.

Speaking of cats, I came to a really weird realization this morning. One of my
cats, named Yakko, has spent his little kitty life attempting to speak. This
morning about 4:30 he complained of my attempts to nudge him. I realized after
the fact that he was actually talking in his sleep like, well, any other deeply
sleeping kid you try to move. He was making noises I'd never heard from a cat
before. He was genuinely grumbling in cat. Not the usual coo-sigh sounds you
get from a sleepy and disturbed cat, but he was attempting to modulate that
sound into speech - in his sleep.

On the reverse side, Wakko, his sister, has refined the fine art of deliberately
tickling my lips with her whiskers to make me wake up. She has at least three
methods of doing this, varying in intensity and angle. All result in me
frantically rubbing my face to get rid of the
I-just-tried-to-make-an-aluminum-gum-wrapper-buzz-like-a-harmonica feeling, and
her looking on with big green eyes full of an almost scientific satisfaction.

In need of a nap,
