Back from Vacation

Back from Vacation

I’m back from vacation! Expect some more development on this site, and perhaps even something new (think ‘new site’), now that my Linux box is online at home. Special thanks to Civilme from Mandrake and Garrett from Pengiun Computing for their help on getting the…

New PHP-Nuke version — 5.01

New PHP-Nuke version — 5.01

I have just installed version 5.01 of PHP-Nuke. This version fixes some small bugs, and speeds up the sending of pages.

Additionally, I have enabled output compression (using GZIP/zlib) on the server side, which should eek a little more speed out of transfers as well, especially on repeated page-views.

Please let me know of any problems that you encounter while using this system.

Thanks!

What the HECK was Drew thinking?!

What the HECK was Drew thinking?!

Expecting it to be No Big Thing, Drew decided to a> triple the storage, b> double the memory, and c> completely re-format the webserver using Red Hat 7.2 instead of Linux-Mandrake during the weekend of April 6, 2002 (while Wendy was away on a riding trip). FEDORA CORE 5 released

I noticed recently that FEDORA CORE 5 has been released. We’ve been running FEDORA CORE as the Linux-based operating system of this webserver for many years. I am looking forward to upgrading to FEDORA CORE 5, but it took some time to download and burn the 3 gigabyte DVD. I then had to verify the burn (which was fine), which also took some time.

Then, I launched the webserver from the DVD and answered a few questions. It then seemed to hang at the “Retrieving System Information” prompt… I waited about 7 minutes before giving up and rebooting back into FEDORA CORE 4. I just don’t have time to worry about it now, and it’s running well as it is. Once my show is over, I’ll work on upgrading.

DINNER 204: Sunday, July 23, 2006

What a strange day today was! Wendy & I decided we wanted to try to see LADY IN THE WATER and even made some tentative plans with Angel to go see it. We were going to try to make the 1:40 showing, but we started…
