Based on experience, I think I agree with Jessyka on this one, although it
depends on what you know your friend already likes. With the list you
provided, it seems to me that ASR (which is less dark/melancholy) would
probably suit.

So far, I've introduced two friends to OtR, both using GDBD. One fell in
love immediately, claiming it perfectly suited her current mood. The other
started to get really worried, since she'd already agreed to go to last
Saturday's show with me (an expensive, time-consuming proposition from St.
Louis). However, after seeing them live, she now agrees with me that
they're incredible, bought ASR for herself at the end of the show, and very
much wants to return to Cincy for the Taft show. Yeah! (I really wanted to
go but was having a hard time talking myself into another trip.)

Anyway, in line with what's been said about last Saturday's show, I had an
incredible time. I've been a fan based on CDs for about 8 months, but now I
know why seeing the live show is so much a part of really appreciating Over
the Rhine. Highlights for me: "Faithfully Dangerous" (wow! I never fully
appreciated that song before!), "Jack's Valentine" (I couldn't sit still),
and "Lucy" (I loved the loose, comfortable by-play).
