Grammar and Flag Burning

Good morning.

I think grammar and spelling are important in email posts, but not in the
usual way. If we jump in and don't proofread and spell krazy baad,
that's often okay, because it creates a certain effect. It's a sound and
feel that carries part of the meaning. Sort of punk rock posting.

And that's good.

Kyle, skip this next part, cos it's about that there was/there were
thing.

I can't find the rule. I think it's supposed to be "there were one or
two"; but I can't find the rule at all. I actually found a bit in
Kolln's grammar book that justifies using "There was" in the case of
certain "and" constructions (i.e., "There *was* some great blocking and
some fine running and passing in Saturday's game.") But I can't find the
rule that justifies "there were one or two," and Kyle is actually right
by the books--when using or, we make the verb form match the nearest
member of the pair. But it sounds wrong. So what gives? Anybody know
the rule for this, really? I wanna know. But does the list? Maybe not.

Flag Burning:
Oh, man, but if they did ban flag burning, think how much more intense
that political statement would become! But, I really thought it was
illegal already.

Hello. I like Over the Rhine.
