Re: Moth lyrics

>Isn't it this way with most of your favorite artists--I know it is with mine. From OTR to Liz to Ani to Sam, half of the time, I have no idea what they are saying. I have to competely agree with Jessyka here--I sure do wish I could understand them sometimes. Too bad style and audible lyrics can't meet! (or maybe that would take some of the fun out of it) I mean, it is fun to guess, and I sure have enjoyed reading ya'll's take on the lyrics.

I find most of my favorite artists are the opposite - lyrics can be clearly
understood, but there's no obvious or coherent meaning.

Examples (since I know you guys love examples):

**

Sister Bluebird flying high above,
Shine your wings forward to the sun.
Hide the myst'ries of life on your way.
Though you've seen them, please don't say a word.
What you don't know, I have never heard.
Starship Trooper, go sailing on by,
Catch my soul, catch the very night.
Hide the moment from my eager eyes.
Though you've seen them, please don't tell a soul.
What you can't see, can't be very whole.

'Starship Trooper' (Anderson/Squire/Howe)

Love the scansion, love the words, but I can't make heads nor tails of it.

'Marine 475' - (lyrics: Belew)

Ok, so he's just reciting numbers and stuff. Still, it's a very compelling
song.

**
Sex sleep eat drink dream
Primal Tribal Apple Egg Vegetable Eel
I have a new canoe but it does not have a wheel
Private velvet animal oldsmobile mind
I'm sitting in the fireplace burning up my time

'Sex Sleep Eat Drink Dream' - (lyrics: Belew)

Maybe I'm straying from my point...

**

stag shit
honey bring it close to my lips
yes
don't blow these brains yet
we gotta be big boy
we gotta be big
starfucker just like my Daddy
just like my Daddy selling his baby
just like my Daddy
gonna strike a deal to make him feel
like a Congressman

'Professional Widow' - (Tori Amos)

Some days I really think I understand what's behind this one, and when I check
again, I realize I haven't a clue.

Suffice it to say, for the most part, the actual lyrics to me are far less
important than the vocal melodies and inflections. At least, i think that's
where I was taking this.
