We've done this twice from the Mobility (moby)list, where various
members have contributed remixes and covers and artwork for the discs.
They are generated on cd-r and sold at an ultra-low cost to list
members. Moby's management is *aware* of the efforts, but they do not
lend their endorement or approval or even official acknowledgement.
But they do tolerate it without suing the pants off the participants.
If we make a go of this, I know a great cd-duplicator and a local
graphics shop that can turn around units per 100 for about $5 each.
Over 500 units would require pre-payment, but would bring the
overall-cost per unit down. Pay the band $1 per, add $2 for shipping
and you've got your tribute record for $8 delivered.
I would also like to submit a work I've been thinking of putting
together - "Bothered" (Eve vs. Venus Mix). Can't guarantee results.
But I'm anxious to try out some sampling and track-building software I
recently acquired.

I wanna do something similar for HDIF -- the acoustic one they did for
Columbus radio on their member CD... Punch up bass, add keyboards. I
dunno.
