otr albums

it's so funny every time we have a discussion about which otr album is better,
old school vs. new school, etc. think about it.
for a lot of people, the album by which they were introduced to otr is the
favorite. if i had been introduced to otr with TWHF, i doubt i would have
kept listening. instead, i was introduced with GDBD. what if some of you
old-schoolers had been intrduced with GDBD or besides? would you have stayed?
i don't think that GDBD is my favorite album (i like certain parts of them
all), but i heard it and knew there was something special about that band.
after GDBD i heard patience, and while i liked the first few songs and
"painted," i wasn't very impressed. next i heard TWHF, and again wasn't
sucked in the way i had been with GDBD. when i heard eve, though, i was
hooked. and for me the different albums represent such different moods. if i
am in the mood for an "old" album (anything over a few years old), TWHF would
be the first thing i would reach for (along with U2's the joshua tree and rich
mullins' liturgy, legacy, and a ragamuffin band). if i am in a candle-
lighting mood, it's patience hands-down. for a rockin' good time, i will
crank up eve and listen to "daddy" over and over. obviously the holidays
claim DNOTY and if i am making a mix tape i will reach for besides, but for
the everyday listening, i will always choose GDBD. (at least until we get some
new stuff)!!!
