Re: In a quandry

Glad to here that I'm not the only one. I expected to get severly razzed about the download and send OTR the money thing (although i was only jesting), but if it is true I will order the CD from the website.
The only thing I have against the used CD thing is that, while the RIAA does not see any profit from the sale, neither does the artist. This is the last thing I want to do to the aratist (except for idiots like Art Alechzasis of Everclear. I live in Portland, I've seen your house, and I don't think I'm taking the food out of your babie's mouth. More like the gas out of your lexus, oops I'm in another Micheal Moor-ish rant again)
But my whole protest against the RIAA is the abuse fo the artist,
Anyway, great suggestion, I did not think it would be that simple.

I too am boycotting all RIAA labels for the same reasons, Aaron. I have been
doing it for about 10 months now, and I must say, sometimes it's harder than
others. The OtR album is a difficult case. I usually wait until I find an
RIAA-labeled album used and then buy it (since the RIAA doesn't get any of
the purchase price then, and it didn't necessitate the manufacturing of one
more CD with one more paper insert inside one more plastic jewel case wrapped
in that infernal, impossible to remove shrink wrap w/ adhesive seal). But
with this album, it could be a while before I find it used (and who would
sell it back??). So, I too am contemplating copying someone else's CD and
sending some money to Karin & Linford. Do you think $17 is good? Is that how
much the CD will sell for from overtherhine.com?

However, I have also heard from a few people that buying a CD directly from
the artist's website (or at one of their concerts) not only gives them a
greater portion of the purchase, but that it also leaves the RIAA's cut out
altogether. Has anyone else heard this?

It's frustrating how many labels are members of the RIAA. They keep a list at
http://www.riaa.org/About-Members-1.cfm, and there are some surprising ones
on there (Righteous Babe, for example). Hang in there, Aaron. The ends
justify the means! :)
