Re: the people here are not shy...

I'm also wondering why all this hostility is happening.

Kylie, you're a lovely person, and darn it, I hope no one else quits this list.

I dipped into the list quite heavily a couple of years ago, and I left
during the "Fuck Me" poem thing. I felt harassed, and I also felt that I
was not expressing myself in a very polite way, either...

Now, I'm back, and learned a few things regarding email since then, and I
came to a few conclusions:

1. It is VERY difficult to express conversational tone in an
email. (agreed, Twila)
2. People come from VERY different backgrounds here; some read hostility in
the slightest sigh, while others let even a tantrum of anger roll right off
their backs.
3. Not everyone has e-comm experience.
4. Because of these things, we should all try very hard to accommodate
people's feelings. We should even over-compensate, although not to the
point of apologizing for everything we say.

I'm trying to learn and practice these lessons each time I post. Perhaps
some of us need to communicate less about controversial subjects online;
alternatively, some of us may want to hold emotional posts in our "out" box
for a buffer period, before they're sent. I'm not pointing any
fingers... I'm just calling for a bit of self-reflection.

I say all this, knowing full well that I've got to take my own advice. And
I hope I am.

Sherry
