Really Don, you shouldn't expect to get the last word on this subject in the public eye (at least in a debate), THEN request that the discussion go off-list (ie., no one can respond to my claims publicly), especially when you clearly hold a specific opinion on said subject.

I also have studied this subject, as a well-read lay individual (former science research librarian), ad naseum, and would add;
we're all most likely wrong, and to some degree uninformed.  It would probably be best for the whole world, especially the scientists, to be forced to study philosophy of science in depth before even entering into such a discussion, because if there's one thing I learned while working among them it's that many scientists hold a great deal on faith which they think is "fact" -- a funny word if there ever was one.  That said, thank God they exist for they have indeed expanded the human imagination -- the universe we live in seems larger and more mysterious than ever (esp. thanks to chaos theory).
