Agreed.  FWIW, I knew you were referring to stars and not to biology, but
the question of "accidents" could be applied to either form of evolution.  
I don't think a statement against "cosmic accidents" has to be interpreted
as a statement against evolution in any of its forms -- in fact, it never
even occurred to me to interpret the phrase that way.  "Evolution" to me
simply means change over time; it might be accidental, it might not.
