revelations and memories...
hi.
sometimes i get into a rut when it comes to music, and there's only one or
two cds i really want to listen to. lately those two cds have been (i know,
i know) linkin park's _hybrid theory_ and staind's _breaking the cycle_. i
don't know if it's because i've been angry lately or if i just like the
screaming vocals that are still vocals...let's face it, the guy from staind
can sing.
anyway, i decided to listen to the atlanta show today as i drove to and from
work (thanks bravesaintkate!), even though i've had it since saturday and
only briefly listened to the first disc. one of my dear friends (hi chris)
had told me that he hadn't been as thrilled with the recording as others, or
as he was about other recordings, but we both think that maybe it's because
he wasn't at the concert, therefore all of the little jokes and nuances
aren't bringing back memories of his time watching the concert. it's
possible.
so, i finished the first cd as i was pulling off of the rankin bridge, and
popped in the second disc as i was driving down kennywood blvd, maybe ten
minutes from my house. for a little bit, i was wondering if i could still
consider over the rhine my favourite band. i haven't listened to them in a
*very* long time it seems, and the first disc, although beautiful, sounded
just like every other time i've heard those songs. i was even looking
forward to hearing *i radio heaven* but i thought, "well, that's like the
canal street show, nothing too special."
then *the world can wait* started.
boys and girls, do you know what it's like to come home after being away for
so long? that's what this was like. and as the words tumbled around me, and
karin moved into *ohio*, that sensation that fills the mask of your face,
letting you know that the tears are not far behind, accosted me, filling me
with the sadness and the relief of coming home.
anyway, just thought i'd share, since people seem to want more over the rhine
content these days. :)
